Brene Brown talks about vulnerability. She says, “vulnerability is the birthplace of creativity, innovation and change”.
Yet why is it many of us fear being vulnerable? We see it as a weakness, that something is wrong with us. We feel judged or ashamed. Yet often it is really just our own self- judgment.
Each and everyone of us has had some type of experience that has been challenging, painful or lonely. Whether it is birth, death, personal health issues, financial or career issues – just to name a few!
When going through all the pain and struggle, we often wear a mask. A mask that is always smiling and saying “everything is just fine”.
Yet there is such a healing experience in allowing yourself to feel whatever you are feeling without judgment. Moreover an even deeper healing by allowing yourself to share with another person who cares for you.
In fact sharing and being vulnerable is a healing experience for that other person too! It allows them to open their heart and feel too.
Human beings are meant to connect. We are social creatures. We were born to love and be loved. What happened to us along the way – whereby we feel unable love ourselves, give or receive love? I think much of it has to do with feeling safe within ourselves and with others.
It really is time to re-start that journey of self-love so that we feel safe to be vulnerable with ourselves and with others.
What are your thoughts on vulnerability?
And as always, please share this blog with others who may benefit!
