Why is it that from the moment we wake up we feel guilty about something or the other?
Many thoughts go through our head – “I should have gotten up earlier, I should have packed a better lunch, I should have finished that project for work, I should have said this (or not said that) to him or her, I should have spent more time with my family”. The list can be endless.
Furthermore, most of time we are not even aware of all these thoughts going on in our head. These thoughts have become the norm for us.
Stop for a moment. Maybe close your eyes.
And listen to those thoughts.
What are you feeling guilty about right now? Do you feel like you should be doing something else rather than reading this? Do you feel you could have done better at something today? That you could have been a better person in the interaction with someone earlier? What other thoughts come up?
The next question is WHY do we feel guilty? Why do we feel we should be or could be doing better? And then feel guilty when we aren’t.
Sometimes it is our need to be perfect.
Often it is because we feel we are not good enough just as we are.
So what do you do with these feelings and thoughts?
Simply become aware of your guilt, your need to be perfect, to be better or good enough. Notice the thoughts and feelings, and ask – how can I change it?
What would it be like for you to feel that everything is fine just as it is? To feel that you are perfect just as you are. To feel you are enough just as you are?
And even if it you don’t feel you or the situation is fine or good enough – that you can remain kind to yourself and recognize that the pattern of guilt, perfection and not good enough are so engrained – that that too will take time to change.
Nonetheless – this is where change begins.
It’s time to realize that you are enough.
I am enough.
We are all enough just as we are.

It is through shared awareness that we grow individually and as a whole.
