What Keeps you from Moving Out of Your Comfort Zone?
It is simply easier to remain in your comfort zone! In what you already know – your current home, job, city, relationship and so forth. And if you are truly happy in your comfort zone that is great!
However for some of you, you stick to the same old – simply because it feels safe and secure. Yet you may be miserable in that situation.
Why is it so hard to get out of your miserable situation, to take a leap and make a change?
Our need for safety keeps us in the status quo.
And why is safety so important to us as human beings?
Really, it is a survival mechanism. Our bodies have a built in flight/fight/freeze response to help us survive in dangerous, threatening or stressful situations.
Historically this survival mechanism saved us from getting eaten by a lion out in the wild or being killed by enemies!
Change however represents the unknown. The unknown in life can often threaten your sense of security, comfort and safety.
So you chose to stay away from change! To run away from it, fight change or get stuck in times of change. Even though change may be the better option.
How can you make a shift from fearing change and the unknown – to embracing it?
Well, one way is by changing your perception of the unknown. Rather than perceiving the unknown as being frightening, threatening or the worst-case scenario; how about seeing the unknown as the best possible situation, one of possibility or excitement?
It’s not always so easy to do. But who ever said change and growth is easy? 🙂
